Taking relays to the next level, the MTR-12T (Model Train Relay) will work for AC or DC applications.  The transient protection protects the relays from voltage spikes in the event of a derailment or a train going through switches.  Relay "chatter" is always a issue if the voltage to the coil isn't just right or if the track and /or train wheels are dirty.  The anti-chatter circuitry helps reduce if not eliminate this symptom.
