Why a relay?

I know there are some neat new devices out there to control crossing gates, dwarf signals, signal bridges, etc...., but I feel the good old fashioned relays do a better job.  Plus, on my layout, I have a double track bi-directional mainline.  This means that I need 4 infrared detectors, totaling as much as $120.00, plus they take up valuable space on my layout.  I accomplish the same thing with the one (1) relay and it's hidden under the table.  (Also, the infrareds don't wire together as easily and effectively as I would like,  lighting seems to affect them and their beams don't detect very far.)  See our comparison chart showing Relays versus infrareds with information pulled off of model train bulletin boards.

Also, relays are used for block control, power control, anti-derailment at crossovers.

We offer three styles of relays:  Our #1 seller, the MTR-12T & MTR-24T, and our original, the DPDT-1.   Each style comes with detailed, easy-to-use instructions.  Follow the links to the left for more information and pricing on each.

Wiring Kits:

We offer wiring kit for crossing gates and signals.  These accessories come from the factory with about 6" of leads; our wiring kits include 6' of 22AWG color coded wire and a European-style terminal block to facilitate easier accessory hook up.  Go to Wiring Kits.

Note:

We recently (10/08) discontinued the SPDT-24 relay.  I you need an old manual or information, let us know and we'll send you a copy.
